The sudden closure of an Auckland pharmacy has left workers thousands of dollars out of pocket and disappointed customers.

Anushka Pal went to Albany Village Pharmacy in February after seeing the jewelry advertised on an online auction site.

She paid $500 for a lip filler the staff provided, and was asked to pay $850 up front for the skin treatment and return in a few weeks.

Pal said that even though she had high hopes for the filler, it didn’t make the slightest difference to her lips. An ultrasound scan later showed that the filler was inside her face, but it wasn’t as visible as expected.

After seeing the doctor, Pal was seriously considering going ahead with the medicated peel and wanted a refund for all the meds.

However, a wrinkle was put in his mind when he contacted the pharmacy and found it closed, and the company was closed by its owner Sanjeet Goundar.

“I couldn’t believe what was happening. It was my hard-earned money, and I am not a millionaire,” said Pal.

A report by the Khov Jones brokerage firm shows that the company owes $347,000, including $12,168 to employees and $29,551 to the Inland Revenue Department.

“Investors were advised that the main reason behind the company’s failure was management problems and a lack of capital,” the report said.

However, owner Sanjeet Goundar and his wife Nalina have two other pharmacies between them, and Pal is determined to get his money back.

“I called [Goundar] many times on the phone until they blocked my number. I said I would come to his pharmacy, and he said he would call the police. “

The Goundars confirmed the account and said they were upset after Pal left a negative review on Google for their pharmacy on St George Street in Papatoetoe.

“We’ve been here 32 years, but this is New Zealand – any Tom, Dick or Harry can walk off the road and ruin your reputation in an instant,” said Nalina Goundar.
