Rod Stewart’s fans were furious after the singer “walked off stage” during a performance. The 78-year-old was playing in Plymouth last night ahead of the UK summer shows.
But the musical legend at Home Park seemed cut short when the stage went dark at 10.30pm. They say it’s curfew, but shocked fans are quick to complain.
According to our sister publication, The Mirror, one fan said: “When he went to Rod Stewart’s concert yesterday evening, he finished his second to last song – the last being We Are Sailing – only to be told it was 10.30pm and he couldn’t make it.
“And this Rod left the stage and the concert was left without lights, only to be told that the Lord Mayor had to cancel it. Hundreds of fans like me were shocked.”
Another said: “It was a great night, but it ended abruptly.” A young man dressed in black came into the yard and ordered Rod for curfew.
“Rod, of course, immediately left and the lights turned on. No farewell to the fans, no encore. Everyone was surprised by the rude end and the sudden end of a wonderful concert.
“Who was the one in black who asked Rod to leave the stage? Why did Rod end the concert so suddenly? We’re in the front and poor Rod looks shocked.
“For an artist to be cut so rudely and suddenly at the end is very difficult. We came out saying he was amazing but we can’t go to the concert at Home Park anymore because the musicians are being kicked off the stage because of the curfew.
“A few minutes to finish and say goodbye is what it would take. He didn’t even get to the end of the song before he was asked to leave the stage. He would have started earlier if he had such a strict schedule.”
Some took to social media to express their anger. One fan said on Facebook: “10.29pm him [Rod] he was called to the side of the stage, he was told ‘the mayor says you are past curfew.
“Rod shouts, ‘tell the mayor to leave!’, then I run, in the dark and that’s it. Everyone was waiting for the entrance but the light comes on and the cleaners start coming in.
“So no, We are sailing on the sea that would have been the gateway. Plymouth was the right place, a Naval town that was home to The Ark Royal which is very painful for everyone who has this connection.”
On Twitter, one fan wrote: “Having @PlymLordMayor and @plymouthcc cancel @rodstewart’s concert at @homeparkstadium last night due to curfew is disrespectful and disrespectful.
“I hope Sir Rod will continue this and those responsible will deal with him properly!” Another wrote: “This will make other big teams think twice about coming to Plymouth.” What a shame.”
Others said they had attended gigs at the same venue in Plymouth when the show had not been canceled in the first place. One said: “Fun when the Muse gig finished at 10.40pm at the same venue”.
Not everyone was kind and lamented Da Ya Think I’m Sexy singer Rod for “time management”. One person said: “Rod Stewart would know his curfew and he would know his time.”
“They could have chosen the songs they played and the time they would have needed between songs to interact with people. It seems to me that this is a poor use of time.” Neither Rod nor the site has responded publicly for comment.
